Reference: At What Age Should a Man Get Married?

In the spring of 1973 I was living at ISKCON Los Angeles. Srila Prabhupada was there and I was getting remnants from his lunch plate almost every afternoon. I was in charge of Golden Avatara Production’s cassette tape subscription service. I had recently changed it’s name to the “Bhaktivedanta Tape Ministry,” and restricted the content to “only lectures and morning walk conversations by Srila Prabhupada.” I had also recently finished computerizing the cassette subscription accounting and the printing of the cassette labels.

I was almost 29 years old, and, in my current incarnation, had never been married. Also, I was aware of the following:

I also understand that you do not want to get married now, but if you marry at all, you should marry now. Because after the age of 30, marriage is not so pleasing. (Srila Prabhupada’s letter to Hayagriva, November 8, 1968)

Therefore, I decided to hurry up and try to find a wife, but I had absolutely no idea who she would be! Lord Sri Krsna satisfied my desire, and I was legally married at ISKCON Chicago (Evanston) in October of that same year. The bride’s name was Bhaktin Edey (now Urmila Devi Dasi), and I had seen her for the very first time in the ISKCON Chicago temple room just 4 months prior to our getting married!
