(Tested using IE6, IE7 and Firefox 2)
To see an example of how this web page works: 1. Click above. (Śrīla Prabhupāda's conversation in the sample text was copy/pasted directly from ISKCON’s “Vedabase” CD-ROM.) 2. Click . 3. Compose a new email and make sure that the “Rich-Text EDITOR” is switched to “ON.” 4. Click , click , right click the body of the email message and select “paste.” 5. As a test, try sending the resultant email to yourself only. (Gmail has apparently “missed the boat” on this one. Using Gmail to send a Sanskrit diacritic email to Hotmail does not work, but using Hotmail to send one to either Hotmail or Gmail works perfectly.)
NOTE: If you copy/paste your text from a web page which uses the Unicode standard for Sanskrit diacritics, then it must first be converted to ISKCON’s “Balaram/ScaGoudy” format. This means that you must click , before clicking or . CAUTION: If you click twice, or if you click it when the text is already in the Balaram format, then the result may be erroneous.
NOTE: Clicking causes more than 1800 different “diacriticless” Sanskrit words to be checked for possible conversion to their diacritic equivalents. For example, the transcendental names of God: Krishna and Krsna are both automatically converted to Kṛṣṇa (Kṛṣṇa).
NOTE: Unicode characters may be entered in five different formats. For example, the Greek letter Delta may be entered as “Δ,” as “[Delta],” as “[#916],” as “Δ,” or as “Δ.” In all five cases, it is translated into HTML as “Δ” and will be displayed on the web page as “Δ.” (See “Table of HTML Special Character Designations” - http://llbest.com/HTMLSpecialCharacterTable.htm) Other special codes are as follows: [url]…[/url] = web address, [b]…[/b] = bold, [i]…[/i] = italic, [copy] = ©, [reg] = ®, [trade] or ™ = ™, [sup1] or ¹ = ¹, [sup2] or ² = ², [sup3] or ³ = ³, [dagger] or † = †, [Dagger] or ‡ = ‡, … (3 periods) = … (…), "…" = “…,” '…' = ‘…’, ' = ’, and :) = ☻.
NOTE: This web page was created using Notepad. In order to speed up the function, it was written in Perl CGI. Unfortunately, this means that it will not work when saved to your local hard drive.
