Dear Prabhus, please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Śrila Prabhupāda!

I first got the idea of synchronizing Śrila Prabhupāda’s tapes with their corresponding Vedabase transcriptions in early 1998, soon after leaving home to try to take up vānaprastha (retired) life. I was inspired by Kapindra Mahārāja in New York City, and by the work I’d done on the ISKCON Interactive DVD-ROM project in 1996 in Denmark with Kṛṣṇa-premā Dāsa and his wife Nitya-tṛpta Devī Dāsī.

My first attempt at audio / text synchronization (ATS) involved using a computer program called Macromedia® Director®, which I’d learned to use in Denmark. Each time that I would synchronize one lecture, I would transfer the result to a video tape and show it to the devotees and guests at the Sunday feast program at Kapindra Mahārāja’s Lower East Side storefront temple / āśrama, where I was residing at the time. To my delight, the videos were very well received.

Since then, I’ve discovered that the world’s most popular web browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, is ideally suited to this particular multimedia application, and I like it much better than Director. However, there were many obstacles to my goal of synchronizing all of Śrila Prabhupāda’s published tapes with their corresponding transcriptions, but by Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s divine arrangement, all of the obstacles have now been overcome! Now it’s just a matter of putting in the time, so I’m hoping to have the whole project completed by the end of this decade. I’m hoping to publish the result, not only on the Internet, but also on an HD and/or Blu-ray DVD-ROM.
